My Pen Mates,

The morning rush has gone
The kids are off and I'm alone
Wife's at work but the morning's still young
Now I see what needs to be done

Kitchen counter is littered
With quickly prepared breakfast leftovers...
And snack and lunch makeovers
The sink's stacked, the stove's packed

Clear the clutter, clear the mind I say
So I start clearing and washing the disarray
Looked out the window distractedly
And noticed yellow leaves cast astray

Wind is brisk and Autumn cool I know
Just from watching leaves roll in the sun's glow
The golden accent of leaves that got my attention
Come not from any plant that I can mention

I examine the trees, the shrubs and vines
But matching the leaves on the ground I cannot find
The shape, size and texture are not common
To those of my yards' vegetation

Several more flurries and then I discover
The leaves turn a corner then flutter and hover
The golden tree up front with its leaves ashedding
That's where all this color is originating

The tree is there even though right now it's unseen
This morning I'm just appreciating its gift that's golden
The leaves are out of place and yet they belong here
Their source I do not see but it causes me no bother

A tree I cannot see has brought me a gift
A sight of beauty in the wind adrift
Soon they'll turn brown, then crimson, they gray
But this morning these lovely leaves come to my heart to play

They belong here but not of here
These sprinkles of gold from around the corner
For on this day of all days they have chosen
To be in my sight and confirm He's arisen!
